Product description

This refined marble sculpture by Italian artist Aldo Dazzi embodies the harmonious balance between geometry and organic form characteristic of Carrara’s modern sculptural tradition.

Carved from a single block of white Carrara marble, the sphere reveals subtle circular incisions that rhythmically encircle its surface, evoking both planetary movement and the timeless perfection of classical form. The hollow center introduces an intriguing spatial tension — an inward gesture that contrasts with the flawless outer curvature.

Dazzi’s craftsmanship demonstrates his deep connection to the marble of his native Carrara, blending the precision of traditional stonework with the abstraction typical of Italian sculpture from the 1960s and 1970s. The smooth polish accentuates the translucency of the marble, allowing light to animate the piece and emphasize its sculptural purity.

Presented on a Belge Noir marble base, Sfera stands as a serene, contemplative object — a synthesis of material mastery and poetic minimalism.

Aldo Dazzi (1920 – c. 1988)

Italian sculptor and graphic artist

Aldo Dazzi was an Italian sculptor and visual artist, born in Codena, a district of Carrara (Tuscany, Italy), on January 1, 1920. He trained and worked in the historic marble-working tradition of Carrara, a region famous for its quarries and its long line of sculptors.

Dazzi’s artistic career developed during the mid-20th century, reaching maturity in the 1970s, when he produced a number of sculptures and graphic works that reflect a modern interpretation of classical marble forms. His style combined the disciplined craftsmanship of Carrara’s marble masters with a more contemporary sensibility, often emphasizing clean lines and organic volumes.

Dazzi was part of the post-war Italian sculptural scene, active in local exhibitions and circles that connected traditional marble artisans with the evolving language of modern art. Some of his pieces—such as Sfera (1978)—show his interest in geometric abstraction and the expressive qualities of natural stone.

Aldo Dazzi’s works occasionally appear in Italian art sales and collections, including limited-edition serigraphs and small marble sculptures.
