Product description
Set of sculptural ‘Balance’ sconces in very good condition. Designed by the French designer / architect Bertrand Balas and manufactured by RAAK Amsterdam in the 1970s. The sconces are made from metal (brass) which is sculpted into a beautiful organic form. The surface of the metal has a ‘safari’ structure and is lacquered gold. Each sconce has a porcelain socket and is rewired for US use. Suitable for a 110/220 Volt, 40 Watt bulb. The Dutch company “RAAK Lichtarchitectuur” (Light Architecture) was founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn, a previous employee of Philips Lighting Eindhoven. RAAK, which means “to hit” in Dutch, implies design which precisely “hits the nail on the head”. RAAK is best known for their organic modern design of the 1960s and 1970s which combined glass & metals for a sophisticated futuristic style.
